From 1992 to 1997, Jinbiao Ma studied chemistry at Fudan University and received his B.A. in Chemistry in 1997. He obtained his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry in 2002.
From 2002 to 2007, he was a post-doctoral fellow, research associate and senior research scientist in Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center with Prof. Dinshaw Patel. In 2007, he became a tenure-track assistant professor at University of Alabama at Birmingham and continued his research on structural study of biogenesis and metabolism of small noncoding RNAs. In 2011, he moved back to Fudan University as Professor in the School of Life Sciences, and expanded his research areas to studying the structures of protein machinery involved in nucleic acid modification and editing as well as epigenetics. Since 2017, he is the associate director of State Key Laboratory of Genetic Engineering.
Research Interests
Dr. Jinbiao Ma mainly focuses on three dimensional structural basis and molecular mechanism of protein-protein and protein-nucleic acid interactions in RNA modification and epigenetics, using protein X-ray crystallography as major methods in combination with various biochemistry and biophysics methods.
